The Kansas City Chiefs could very well be without running back Damien Williams here over the short term. He missed last week’s game with a rib injury and is questoinable to go Sunday against the New England Patriots.
In his stead, Kansas City is re-signing former leading rusher Spencer Ware. The veteran made the announcement on social media Tuesday with other reports confirming the news.
Ware, 28, last suited up as a member of the Chiefs last season. He recorded just 246 rushing yards in 13 games (two starts).
The LSU product was slated to be Kansas City’s starting running back in 2017, but suffered a torn PCL and additional knee damage that summer. This came after Ware led the Chiefs in rushing (921) and total yards (1,368) the previous season.
Ware’s familiarity with Andy Reid’s offense coupled with Kansas City having LeSean McCoy on a pitch count played into this move.
