The Tampa Bay Rays turned to pitcher Tyler Glasnow on Thursday in the hopes he could bring his dominant stuff for Game 5. Instead, the 26-year-old imploded at Minute Maid Park against the Houston Astros.
Glasnow’s electric fastball didn’t fool anyone. Astros outfielders George Springer and Michael Brantley tore into the pitch with singles lined into the outfield. Once Houston got the crowd on its side and shook Glasnow’s confidence, the hits and runs poured on.
After Altuve’s single gave Houston the 1-0 lead, AL MVP candidate Alex Bregman stepped to the plate and drilled a two-run double to further build on the lead.
Tampa Bay quickly got its bullpen going, but the damage was already done. While Glasnow escaped the inning, Houston gave Gerrit Cole a four-run lead to work with and Twitter lit up with reactions on Glasnow and hinted he was tipping pitches.
