Alabama head football coach Nick Saban had some strong words for five-star freshman recruit Antonio Alfano earlier this season, indicating that the defensive lineman quit on the team.
It’s not yet known what happened behind the scenes between the New Jersey native and the Alabama football program.
What we do know is that Alabama has removed Alfano from its roster, via 247 Sports.
Alfano enrolled in Alabama back in January and recorded two sacks in the program’s spring game. He has not played yet this season after being the Crimson Tide’s top recruit during a 2019 cycle that saw them ranked No. 1 in the nation.
An All-State performer in Jersey, Alfano was the No. 5 overall player nationally in the 2019 recruiting class and ranked first defensively.
This is a strange story that could ultimately lead to him transferring. Though, the very same 247 Sports report notes that Alfano has not entered the portal as of yet.
