WATCH: Bears Matt Nagy goes full George Halas for season opener

Chicago Bears head coach Matt Nagy knows full well how important Thursday’s season opener against the division rival Green Bay Packers is. Nagy also has an understanding of the Bears’ rich history as well as that of the NFL.

Just check out the second-year head coach head into Soldier Field ahead of the game paying homage to late-great former Bears head coach George Halas.

That’s one heck of a way for Nagy to enter the stadium as his Bears begin their 100th year of existence. For those of you not in tune with Bears history, Halas was the organization’s first ever head coach.

Outside of Halas being known for rocking the very same fedora during his days on the sideline, he’s an all-time great figure.

Halas’ tenure started with the then-Decatur Staleys back in 1920 and lasted through the 1929 season. He then spent three other stints as the Bears’ head coach ranging from 1933-1967. Halas ultimately earned eight NFL titles as the Bears’ head coach.

What a great way for Mr. Nagy to pay tribute to one of the greatest to do his job.
