The youth movement at the quarterback position in the NFL is coming on strong, as you’re about to see with crystalline clarity.
Due to poor performances by some top starters, along with a couple of brutal injuries to two of the NFL’s top star quarterbacks, this coming weekend of action is expected feature 20 quarterbacks who are age 26 or younger.
Hall of Fame executive Gil Brandt pointed out this stunning stat on Twitter Friday:
It could be argued that a few of these young men are already bona fide stars in this league, like Patrick Mahomes, Deshaun Watson, Jared Goff, Dak Prescott and Carson Wentz.
Others, such as Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, and Daniel Jones, have at least given their organizations hope that they too may one day become stars in their own right.
It’s too early to say whether this extraordinary crop of young talent will usher in a new golden era of quarterback play in the NFL. But at least one of these young men has already shown that everything we thought we knew was possible is nothing more than a mirage.
