Bill O’Brien: Deshaun Watson avoided injury on flip into end zone

Deshaun Watson

During Monday night’s gut-wrenching loss to the New Orleans Saints, Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson was treated in the medical tent after flipping into the end zone for a touchdown and landing hard on his hip.

However, Watson did return to the game after treatment and didn’t miss a single play. Following up on this on Monday, head coach Bill O’Brien shared that Watson did not, in fact, suffer an injury.

“We ran that play on fourth down and he kind of got flipped in the air,” O’Brien said, per the Houston Chronicle. “he just landed. It’s nothing that’s going to keep him out, just treatment, just normal bumps and bruises like every player in the game has.”

Watson also was hit an inordinate amount of times throughout the game, enduring six sacks and 11 total quarterback hits. He absolutely got clobbered on his final throw of the game, which at the time was the go-ahead touchdown to Kenny Stills.

Needless to say, the talented quarterback can’t continue absorbing these types of blows if he’s going to have a long career in the NFL.
