Veteran wide receiver Dontrelle Inman signed with the New England Patriots this past offseason with the expectation of resurrecting a once promising career.
Sadly, that’s not going to happen. According to Nick Underhill of The Athletic, New England has already decided to move on from the 30-year-old Inman.
Given that the Patriots have a whole host of injury concerns at receiver, this has to be considered somewhat of a surprise.
Inman put up the best season of his career as a member of the then San Diego Chargers in 2016, recording 58 receptions for 810 yards and four touchdowns.
Unfortunately, injuries have derailed his career since. The Virgnia product appeared in a combined 21 games between three teams over the past two seasons.
The NFL’s decision to reinstate troubled Patriots wide receiver Josh Gordon late last week could have played a role in Inman’s demise from the team.
Inman’s release comes one day after he caught a single pass in New England’s preseason win over the Tennessee Titans.
