The MLB trade deadline seemed to have passed Wednesday afternoon. Nothing special had really happened.
That’s until the Houston Astros stepped in and acquired former Cy Young winner Zack Greinke from the Arizona Diamondbacks in a blockbuster last-minute trade.
Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic was the first to report the trade.
Greinke, 35, has once again been brilliant this season. He’s pitching to a 10-4 record with a 2.87 ERA and NL-best 0.94 WHIP on the season.
The former Cy Young winner will now join a potentially dominant Astros rotation that already includes Justin Verlander and Gerrit Cole for a championship contending team.
It’s not yet known what Arizona received for Greinke.
