New Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant is going to be in for a rude aweakening when it comes to the press in the nation’s largest media market.
That seems to be pretty clear following all the noise surrounding Durant since he decided to leave the Golden State Warriors for Brooklyn. That includes the idea that he felt underappreciated by the Warriors’ organization.
Longtime Warriors insider Marcus Thompson of The Athletic provided more insight about Durant’s thought process during his three-year stint in Golden State.
It’s not great.
“He did not feel like the level of appreciation and adoration he got with the Warriors was on par with what he should have got,” Thompson noted. The Andy Liu’s (Warriors blogger) in the world bothered him more than what we felt like they should.”
There’s a whole heck of a lot to unpack here. If Durant is bothered by the treatment he received from an otherwise laid back Bay Area media, just imagine how he’s going to handle the Big Apple.
This all comes with former Durant teammate Kendrick Perkins noting that the two-time MVP’s spat with Draymond Green last season led to Durant leaving the Warriors.
It also comes at a time that leaks from Durant’s camp have painted his former organization in a bad light.
Durant will officially become a member of the Nets once the sign-and-trade for D’Angelo Russell is completed on Saturday.
