Willson Contreras’ stay on the 10-day IL was as short as it possibly could be, as the Chicago Cubs have activated him following 10 days of inaction.
In a corresponding roster move, the Cubs have optioned Addison Russel back to Triple-A, per Jesse Rogers of ESPN.
Contreras had been on the injured list with a strain in the arch muscle of his right foot. He worked a bullpen session for Jon Lester on Monday and suffered no ill effects.
One of the best overall catchers in the game today, Contreras will certainly be a welcome addition back into the lineup. In 78 games this year, he’s averaged .286 at the plate with 19 home runs and 55 RBI.
