Rory McIlroy walked up to the second tee of his final round at Pebble Beach tied for sixth place in the 2019 U.S. Open with a score of 6-under par. He walked off the second green seven shots back after a series of errors cost him dearly.
It started with an errant drive that went into some seriously deep rough in front of a fairway bunker. His attempted recovery shot went about five yards, right into said bunker.
Then, needing a solid third shot to give himself a chance at par, McIlroy shanked it into a greenside bunker, instead.
All told, McIlroy ended up with a double-bogey after racing his bogey putt past the hole — a terrible sequence that had him seven shots off the lead in the blink of an eye.
