As the Boston Celtics scramble to fill in the gap between themselves and elite Eastern Conference teams like Milwaukee and Toronto, they are reportedly zeroing in on big man Clint Capela.
Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders reports the Celtics have been “engaged pretty seriously” in trade talks for Capela.
Capela just played out the first season of his five-year, $90 million deal with the Houston Rockets. He had a fantastic campaign, averaging 16.6 points, 12.7 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game last season
However, Houston has reportedly been dangling him on the trade market, along with pretty much everyone else on the roster.
Of course, the big man who has been atop every team’s wish list is Anthony Davis. And Boston has certainly been linked to him since the New Orleans center requested a trade last season.
Depending on what Kyrie Irving decides to do this summer, going after Capela might be a more feasible plan long term than Davis.
