Harrison Barnes’ decision to opt out of his $25.1 million deal with the Sacramento Kings for next season caught a lot of people by surprise.
Barnes, a former lottery pick of the Golden State Warriors, decided to bet on himself.
It’s now on the verge of paying off. According to this report from David Weiglein of KHTK Sports 1140 in Sacramento, Barnes is nearing a four-year, $88 million deal with the Kings.
That’s another massive payday for a player in Barnes who signed a four-year, $94.4 million deal with the Dallas Mavericks back in 2016.
Barnes, 27, split time between Dallas and Sacramento last season. The small forward averaged 16.4 points and 4.7 rebounds while shooting 46 percent from the field.
Even after the deal becomes official Sunday evening, Sacramento could still have upwards of $35-plus million to spend in free agency.
