It’s going to be a while before 17-year-old New York Mets prospect Ronny Mauricio finds himself in a regular-season Major League Baseball game.
Though, the Dominican native is already making waves during Grapefruit League play in Florida.
A top-three prospect of the Mets’ organization heading into the 2019 season, Mauricio netted a pair of RBI’s during Saturday’s spring training game against the division rival Atlanta Braves.
His ability to go opposite field tells us a story of a young man that’s well beyond his age when it comes to discipline at the plate. That’s some real impressive stuff.
Mauricio, who will turn 18 on April 4, posted a .273 average with three homers an 35 RBI in two low-level minor league stops last season. The hope here is that he could see Double-A at some point in 2019. After that, it’s anyone’s guess.
