Following a brutal 2018-19 season that saw Wyking Jones lead the Cal Bears men’s basketball team to a 8-23 record, the head coach has been fired.
John Canzano of The Oregonian reported the move on Sunday, noting Jones will be bought out of his contract and that Berkeley is going to target Jason Kidd to become Jones’ replacement.
Kidd, of course, is a Cal Berkeley legend. He played for the Bears from 1992-94 and had his No. 5 jersey retired in 2004.
Additionally, Kidd has plenty of head coaching experience since retiring from the NBA back in 2013. He was the head coach of the Brooklyn Nets from 2013-14 and then coached the Milwaukee Bucks from 2014-18.
If Cal is going to land Kidd, however, the school might just have some competition from a certain NBA team in Southern California.
