Lauri Markkanen ruled out, will undergo further evaluation for fatigue

Chicago Bulls forward Lauri Markkanen was removed from Tuesday’s game against the Toronto Raptors due to fatigue.

He was actually kept in Toronto overnight. He will miss Wednesday’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers, but has also been cleared to travel and is headed back to Chicago.

“He was cleared to travel after tests were completed and is now back in Chicago,” an update on NBA.com said. “Markkanen is undergoing further evaluation this afternoon and will not play in tonight’s game versus Portland. Updates on his condition will be provided when appropriate.”

Markkanen has been one of Chicago’s top players this season. He’s averaged 18.7 points and nine rebounds a night. He’s shooting 46.7 percent from the field, 37.4 percent on threes, and 83.2 percent from the free-throw line.

At 21-54, Chicago is long eliminated from playoff contention. With that in mind, there is certainly no need for the Bulls to rush Markkanen back into action.
