Speaking to the media ahead of Tuesday’s game against the Indianapolis Pacers, star Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James opened up about Thursday’s NBA trade deadline.
It’s rather obvious where James’ mind is. More than any other team, his Lakers have been linked to New Orleans Pelicans star Anthony Davis. Though, it now looks like trade talks have broken down.
In talking about the deadline and the roster he currently has to work with, James didn’t necessarily give his teammates a ringing endorsement.
“It’s a business, so right now this is who we have,” James said, via ESPN. “This is my group and this is the group I’m trying to lead to go out there and win ball games. That’s all I’ve ever done.”
Given that the Lakers relied on James to help construct this roster during the summer, we’re not too sure where he is headed with this.
As many as nine members of the team have been linked in various trade proposals for Anthony Davis. We wonder how they feel after these latest comments.
James is one who tells us how he sees it. Right now, the Lakers can’t be considered legitimate contenders out west. It’s the same narrative that the team headed into the season with.
Whether that changes ahead of Thursday’s NBA trade deadline remains to be seen. If not, there will certainly be some drama in Laker-land as the 2018-19 season draws to a conclusion.
