All Arizona Cardinals general manager Steve Keim had to do was say, unequivocally, that Josh Rosen was the team’s answer at quarterback.
If he had done that on Wednesday at the combine, then all the talk about Kyler Murray going No. 1 overall would have simmered down to a low boil.
Instead, Keim threw gasoline on the bonfire.
When asked if Rosen is his quarterback, Keim answered, “he is right now, for sure,” per Les Bowen of the Philadelphia Daily News.
“Right now” is exactly what the Jacksonville Jaguars are saying about Blake Bortles. So take that for what you will.
There are many who believe that Murray would be vastly superior to Rosen if rookie head coach Kliff Kingsbury wants to run the type of Air Raid offense he ran at Texas Tech. We recently argued for such a move. Kingsbury himself has already made it clear before he was hired in Arizona that he was enamored with Murray.
And so while Kingsbury has since thrown his support behind Rosen, the team’s general manager pretty much undid all that PR work. At the least, he’s created the perception that nothing is off the table.
