Philip Rivers ‘not going anywhere,’ per Chargers GM

There was speculation that Philip Rivers might leave the Chargers when the team relocated from San Diego to Los Angeles back in 2017. That never really came to fruition. Instead, Rivers stayed put and led these Chargers to a surprising 12-win 2018 campaign.

Even then, it remains to be seen how long the 37-year-old quarterback will remain under center for the Bolts.

He’s set to become a free agent after the 2019 season and could very well decide to call it quits. Though, Chargers general manager Tom Telesco is having none of this talk.

“I can tell you he’s not going anywhere, so he’s going to be here,” the GM said, via ESPN. “We’ll talk at the right point, as far as the moves we need to make in the offseason, the resources we have and how it all fits in. But yeah, he’s not going anywhere.”

Rivers might be coming off the best season of his borderline Hall of Fame career. He completed 68.3 percent of his passes for 4,308 yards with 33 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

Despite this, the veteran remains vastly underpaid. His $23 million cap hit for the 2019 campaign would currently rank 14th among quarterbacks in the league. It goes without saying that Rivers would like a bump in pay. He’s more than earned it.
