It was just a matter of time before Cam Newton found a nice connection with Carolina Panthers rookie first-round pick, wide receiver D.J. Moore.
The two had been close to taking their relationship to that next level this season. And it finally happened Sunday against the Detroit Lions.
With Carolina trailing the last-place team 10-7 in the third quarter and backed up at their own six-yard line, Moore caught an errant Newton pass 11 yards down the field and absolutely turned on the jets.
The end result was an absurd 82-yard catch-and-run by the former Maryland standout.

This added to an already great game that has seen Moore catch all five of his targets for 139 yards. For comparison’s sake, Newton was 5-of-11 for 46 yards targeting other receivers at this point.
Unfortunately for the Panthers, a missed field goal prevented them from tying the game. That’s the bad news.
