Westbrook suffered a sprained ankle in the team’s game against the New Orleans Pelicans on Monday and has already missed one outing.
While the Thunder themselves are optimistic that the injury won’t be long term, there’s currently no timeline for his return to the court. In the marathon that is the NBA season, there’s no reason to rush Westbrook back.
Remember, he also missed the opening of the regular year after undergoing off-season knee surgery.
In Westbrook’s stead Wednesday against the lowly Cleveland Cavaliers, recent acquisition Dennis Schroder put up 28 points. He’ll get the call to start again Thursday evening.
