By and large, the 2018 season has been a rough one for Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy, and fans seem to be ready for a change. Sunday night’s game against the Minnesota Vikings continued that trend.
First, McCarthy was ripped for his conservative play calling in the first half.
Things didn’t get any better in the second. With the game tied and Green Bay short of the 50, McCarthy elected to go for it on fourth-and-one. The formation he ran was, at best, questionable.
This cannot be your play call on 4th and inches when you have Aaron Freaking Rodgers. By bunching everyone close together, McCarthy is choosing to run into a 10-man box. This is a choice. pic.twitter.com/qBZD5JbMwe

This made McCarthy a punching bag on Twitter, with plenty of people calling for him to be fired.

We even got a philosophical question about it.
Is Mike McCarthy the Clay Helton of the NFL or is Clay Helton the Mike McCarthy of college football? 🤔
— Lewis Kay (@lewiskay) November 26, 2018
Well, Clay Helton was retained on Sunday. McCarthy will likely be fired following this season, if not before. If he is retained, we only hope that the backlash matches what USC got for keeping Helton.
