Umpire Angel Hernandez did not have a good day in Game 3 of the ALDS between the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees. Before Game 4, the fans in New York let him have it.
When he was introduced before the game, Hernandez was roundly booed by the fans in the Bronx.

This is far from surprising.
As the first base umpire in Monday’s Game 3, Hernandez had four of his calls challenged, three of which were overturned. He was widely ridiculed on Twitter during and after Game 3.
This was despite the game being a complete blowout. There was certainly a great deal of anxiety about Hernandez being behind the plate.
If any player performed like Angel Hernandez tonight he would be in jeopardy of being benched. Hernandez gets home plate in a playoff game tomorrow.

The fans at Yankee Stadium for Tuesday’s Game 4 clearly shared that anxiety.
