It was reported earlier on Tuesday that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were on the verge of signing 25-year-old guard Ali Marpet to a lucrative long-term extension.
We now have details regarding the contract, and it’s an absolute whopper. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Marpet will get $54.125 million over five seasons. That makes him one of the highest-paid guards in the entire NFL.

A second-round pick from Division 3 Hobart back in 2015, Marpet has morphed into one of the best guards in the NFL. Having started 44 of a possible 52 games since entering the league, Marpet is now being paid like an elite offensive linemen.
His total contract value of $54-plus million ranks sixth among NFL guards. With an average annual salary of $10.825 million, Marpet also comes in No. 6 overall in that category. Not too shabby for the small-school product.
