The marriage between star running back Le’Veon Bell and his Pittsburgh Steelers could soon be heading for an ugly divorce. Still a holdout after three regular season games, the Steelers are reportedly listening to offers for the All-Pro back.
As the two sides figure out what the next step is, Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto is pretty much telling Bell not to let the door hit him on the way out.
“James Conner’s proving to be a worthy back and it’s a team sport,” Peduto told TMZ Sports. “It’s beyond one player. He’s, I think, getting very bad advice from his manager. It’s getting to the point of a certain tipping point when you can still come back and your teammates and the fans will want to have you back.”
We’re pretty sure Steelers fans would welcome Bell back with open arms. The same can’t be said for his teammates, some of which have already put him on blast (more on that here).
Peduto is correct in saying that Conner is playing well. The second-year back has racked up 352 total yards and three touchdowns in as many games.
Though, Pittsburgh has certainly missed what Bell brings to the table. It’s just 1-1-1 on the season, the team’s worst three-game start since it missed the playoffs back in 2013.
