The Cleveland Browns are either going to release or trade star wide receiver Josh Gordon here within the next day or so.
Cleveland announced on Saturday evening that it will move on from Gordon Monday. Immediately after that, multiple reports suggested that teams were already calling Cleveland in hopes of landing the NFL’s former top receiver.
Meanwhile, other reports Sunday morning indicated that Gordon’s preference is to join either the Dallas Cowboys or the San Francisco 49ers (more on that here).
Now, according to 49ers general manager John Lynch, the team has already contacted Cleveland about the troubled young pass catcher.
John Lynch just said he’s made calls about Josh Gordon and that team is doing its due diligence on the receiver.

Lynch is one the few general manager that tells it like it is. That’s largely due to his background in the media.
Either way, San Francisco’s interest in Gordon shouldn’t be considered too much of a surprise. Head coach Kyle Shanahan worked with him in Cleveland back in 2014. And while it was a different regime, the 49ers almost pulled off a trade for Gordon a few years back.
This is definitely a story worth watching over the next several hours.
