The one-and-done rule isn’t long for basketball, and a partnership between the NBA, NBA Players Association and NCAA makes that increasingly evident.
Per ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, the three groups have teamed up to support the USA Basketball Junior National Team.
NBPA Executive Director Michele Roberts called the change “long overdue.”
“It’s a natural fit to take the excellent life skills instruction and off-court development programs we provide for NBA players and stretch them out so that we can provide support and guidance to young, developing talent. This is an effort that is long overdue.”
The expanded program will allow USA Basketball to bring in approximately 80 top prospects, who will receive life skills training. The NBA, in addition to providing health and wellness training, will assist in developmental programs.
NBA commissioner Adam Silver has been vocal about eliminating the one-and-done rule. According to a previous report, draft eligibility rules could change as soon as 2021.
