Aaron Rodgers signing a contract extension is obviously great news for the Green Bay Packers, but the new deal could assist the team in landing Khalil Mack.
The All-Pro defensive end is currently holding out from the Oakland Raiders, and head coach Jon Gruden has called the contract situation a “grueling process.” Mack’s future in Oakland, at best, is uncertain.
Meanwhile, Green Bay has consistently been linked to Mack. The Packers even own the highest odds of having Mack on the roster at the end of October.
And according to Zachary Jacobson of Cheesehead TV, Rodgers’ mega extension frees up nearly $15.5 million in cap space.
You’re not hearing things; that is the Mack Alarm sounding.
Mack is expected to continue his holdout into the regular season, and the Packers — armed with two 2019 first-round picks and Rodgers secure — are positioned to bring in the former NFL Defensive Player of the Year.
There’s no question this situation will be monitored closely by Green Bay fans as Week 1 of the 2018 NFL season approaches.
