The New York Yankees are almost certainly going to look to improve their starting rotation between now and next week’s non-waiver trade deadline.
Unfortunately for fans in the Bronx looking for a big splash, New York is unwilling to part with any of its top-end prospects, Miguel Andújar included.
This might force the Yankees to move some big league talent for an upgrade in the starting rotation. It was reported this past weekend that Sonny Gray might in fact be one of the veterans New York subtracts from its roster.
If so, Gray is now being linked to the Milwaukee Brewers.
If sonny gray is traded, brewers are probably a great spot for him. They were runners-up for him last year. Their pitching coach Derek Johnson was gray’s pitching coach st Vanderbilt. They could use him.

It was noted earlier on Monday that Brewers starter Brent Suter suffered a torn UCL in his start against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday. Needless to say, Milwaukee is in desperate need of starting pitching help now that it has lost a player that’s tied for the team lead in wins.
For his part, Gray has been a disaster in New York since being acquired from Oakland a year ago next week. He’s pitching to a 7-7 record with a 5.34 ERA and bloated 1.49 WHIP in 19 starts this season.
Some around the baseball world think the bright lights of New York City have proven too much for Gray. If that’s the case, a smaller-market Brewers club could make sense.
