Report: Kawhi Leonard’s reps hid him from Spurs in New York City

The ongoing saga around San Antonio Spurs forward Kawhi Leonard seems to churn out new information daily. As more information comes out, we learn some of the incredible details about just how far gone the relationship between Leonard and San Antonio is.

According to Michael C. Wright of ESPN, the lack of communication between the All-Star forward and the organization existed during the season as well.

“I probably shouldn’t say this right now, but I’m gonna say it because Kawhi’s about to be out of there, I think. There was a point during his rehab process in New York that some of the Spurs brass went out to see him in New York,” Wright said, via Back to Back The Podcast. “As soon as those guys arrived to the building, Kawhi’s people grabbed him and sequestered him to another part of the building so the Spurs people couldn’t even see him.”

During the interview, Wright mentioned that head coach Gregg Popovich’s comments during the season that the media should talk to Kawhi’s group for an injury update, was indeed because San Antonio was kept in the dark on Leonard’s recovery status.

The information certainly doesn’t put San Antonio’s forward and his reps in a favorable light. If they hid from San Antonio, one of the most respected organizations in sports, it could raise concerns for other teams about what could happen to them.

The report further adds to the mystery surrounding the 27-year-old forward. Leonard reportedly doesn’t want to compete with LeBron James in Los Angeles and it seems teams around the league don’t know how healthy he is.

As of now, it seems like we’ll see far more reports from both sides before there is any final resolution to Leonard’s wishes for a trade.
