It wasn’t too long ago that wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell was seen as a potential star in the making for the New England Patriots.
A fourth-round pick out of Georgia back in 2016, Mitchell recorded 32 receptions for 401 yards with a 66.7 percent catch rate and four touchdowns as a rookie. He also added six receptions for 70 yards in New England’s Super Bowl comeback against the Falcons that season.
Now, just 18 months later, it looks like Mitchell could be the odd-man out in New England. According to NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero, the Patriots are looking to trade the 26-year-old receiver.
The #Patriots have been seeking a potential trade partner for WR Malcolm Mitchell, per sources. Flashed talent with 32 catches in 2016 but injuries have been frustrating. May be odd man out in New England, even with Julian Edelman’s suspension.

As noted above, injuries have frustrated the Patriots recently. Mitchell missed the entire 2017 campaign after suffering a knee injury during camp.
Despite being without Julian Edelman (suspension) for the first four games of the 2018 season, it appears that the Pats don’t envision Mitchell playing a role. The team seems to be high on Kenny Britt at that position, which will likely lead to a trade before Week 1.
