Buster Posey was named to his sixth All-Star team on Sunday. But on Monday, it was announced that the San Francisco Giants catcher will miss the game.
Buster Posey will miss the All-Star Game. For about a month, Giants have planned for him to get injection during break to try and calm inflammation in right hip. That explains why he has missed so many games.

Posey has hit a respectable .285/.367/.412 at the plate in 2018. But with only five home runs, his power has been down. He’s also played in only 74 of San Francisco’s 92 games.
This comes on the heels of a 2017 season when he hit only 12 home runs, with only two coming after the All-Star break. A bad hip would certainly go a long way in explaining at least some of those troubles.
It’s difficult to predict who will take Posey’s spot on the team. Likely candidates include St. Louis Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina, Los Angeles Dodgers catcher Yasmani Grandal, Pittsburgh Pirates catcher Francisco Cervelli, or Atlanta Braves catcher Kurt Suzuki.
