Terrell Owens: It’s ‘mind-boggling’ Jason Garrett still has a job

Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett

Soon-to-be Hall of Fame wide receiver Terrell Owens was an embattled personality during his brief three-year stint with the Dallas Cowboys.

Though, none of that seems to compare to a Cowboys head coach in Jason Garrett who has seemingly been on the hot seat more often than not since taking over those duties back in 2010. In seven-plus seasons as the team’s head coach, he’s led Dallas to just one playoff win.

It has some questioning why Garrett still has a job. We can now add Owens to that growing list.

“At the end at the day, how can you keep allowing the players to be the scapegoat for what’s not happening, especially when you have a head coach that’s supposed to be offensive-minded? They’re supposed to direct and lead the team to where it hasn’t gotten in a number of years, and they’ve pretty much been in a standstill under coach Jason Garrett,” Owens told 105.7 The Fan in Dallas recently.

Owens went on to note that it’s “mind-boggling” Garrett still has a job.

More so than any other owner outside of Cincinnati and Pittsburgh, Jerry Jones has been loyal to his head coaches in the recent past. Prior to Garrett’s arrival as the head man in Dallas, many were thrown for a loop that Jones kept Wade Phillips as long as he did.

What we do now is that the 2018 season should be make-or-break for Garrett in Big D. He followed up a 13-3 record in 2016 by going 9-7 and missing the playoffs all together last year. A repeat performance will likely cost Garrett his job.

We also can’t expect Owens and Garrett to be exchanging pleasantries too much during the former’s Hall of Fame enshrinement ceremony in Canton later this summer. That’s for sure.
