Most prognosticators have pegged Sam Darnold to the Cleveland Browns with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft, but the franchise may be heading in a different direction.
According to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, sources have indicated the Browns have “cooled” on Darnold and that the team is more interested in selecting either Josh Allen or Baker Mayfield.
Per the report, a “top-level NFL personnel executive” has been insisting since January and repeated this week that Cleveland will select Allen, the divisive prospect from Wyoming. That, in true draft fashion, is the opposite of an earlier report.
If true, though, the New York Giants would be thrilled. They’ve been linked to Darnold with the No. 2 overall pick.
Regardless of whether Cleveland takes the USC product, Darnold probably won’t be waiting long to learn of his NFL home.
