According to a report by Ralph Vacchiano of SportsNet New York, New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. did not attend quarterback Eli Manning’s minicamp held at Duke University.
He is still recovering from ankle surgery, though his absence can’t help but spark thoughts of his current contract situation with the team. So, Beckham’s standing with the team will be worth monitoring as the Giants OTAs begin this Monday. Will he want to show up to make a good impression for his new head coach? Or might he hold out on attending these voluntary activities?
So far this offseason, Beckham has not been shy about his desire to get a new contract. But, he wants to earn quarterback pay which the Giants are not likely going to give him. OBJ also said he doesn’t plan to play without a new contract in place.
In addition to this, Beckham has also been the topic of trade rumors. While the Giants are not directly shopping him, they did say that they would require at least two first-round picks in exchange for their former 2014 Offensive Rookie of the Year.
These next few days will be telling in regards to Beckham’s mindset.
