When Notre Dame’s Arike Ogunbowale hit the game-winning shot in the final second of the team’s Women’s Final Four win over a previously undefeated Uconn team Friday night, all of Nationwide Arena in Columbus was shocked.
After all, this shot helped defeat a Huskies team that seemed destined for yet another National Title.
It really was something to behold.

On the call for ESPN were former women basketball stars Kara Lawson and Rebecca Lobo as well as play-by-play man Adam Amin.
Their reactions to Ogunbowale’s game-winning shot might have even been better than the shot itself.

Pure emotion. Raw emotion. Lobo, a former star for Geno Auriemma’s Connecticut team, won a championship with the program back in 1995. You could tell she was absolutely shocked that her old program went down pretty much the same way in the Final Four for a second consecutive year.
Remember, it was Mississippi State who handed the Huskies a shocking loss in last year’s tournament. In a sign that the basketball gods do indeed have a sense of humor, Notre Dame will take on Mississippi State in the National Championship Game on Sunday.
Either way, the reactions from those three broadcasting the game were just absolutely brilliant. We also have to hand it to Amin for a perfect call.
Job well done, indeed.
