While the Houston Texans attempt to build a contender, they’re sticking with veteran cornerback Johnathan Joseph to be a leader for the defense.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Media notes the Texans have agreed to a two-year deal with the 33-year-old defender.
After five years with the Cincinnati Bengals, Joseph arrived in Houston prior to the 2011 campaign. He’s played each of the last seasons with Houston and started 103 of 112 possible regular-season games.
In 2017, he collected 47 total tackles, defended nine passes and had two interceptions. Joseph returns to help a cornerback group that already included Kareem Jackson, Kevin Johnson and Treston Decoud, and Houston recently signed Aaron Colvin.
Joseph, who turns 34 in April, may see a reduced role moving forward, but his knowledge and experience are valuable short-term assets.
