When Kevin Love detailed his personal struggle with a panic attack and mental health, the Cleveland Cavaliers forward mentioned the importance of a previous admission from DeMar DeRozan.
And the All-Star guard is grateful to have inspired Love.
“It made me feel, you know, pretty damn good, honestly,” DeRozan said in a video posted by the Toronto Raptors. “So it’s cool to be able to help somebody.”
Love shared that he suffered a panic attack during a November game, and the episode has entirely changed how he views mental health. Since then, he’s been regularly visiting a therapist and said talking about his issues has been important.
Also in the essay, Love revealed he decided to write the piece because of DeRozan, who recently discussed his fight with depression.
We cannot measure the impact of two NBA stars speaking up, but DeRozan and Love surely have made a difference.
