Jon Kitna spent 14 years in the NFL as a journeyman quarterback. Now he’ll be coaching up a new generation of NFL hopefuls at Brophy College Preparatory in Phoenix, Arizona.
The former NFL player landed the head coaching gig at the Jesuit high school, Brophy announced on Thursday.
“After an extensive search process, I am excited to welcome Jon Kitna and his family to the Brophy College Preparatory community,” school Principal Bob Ryan said. Throughout this process, we have sought not only a qualified and dynamic football coach but someone who shares our vision for the overall formation of our students. Jon Kitna shares this vision and I look forward to the impact he will have as a faculty member and as our head coach, positively influencing the lives of his students and players. Lastly I would once again like to thank and congratulate Coach Scooter Molander for his 13 years of dedicated service to Brophy’s football program.”
Brophy football has a history of doing big things, winning the 2005 and 2007 5A-I Football State Championship in Arizona. However, last year’s squad was underwhelming, winning just one game overall, finishing with a record of 1-9.
Kitna won two District Championships during his three-year tenure at Lincoln High in Tacoma, Washington. Then he was hired on as the head coach of Waxahachie High School in Waxahachie, Texas, where he turned a losing program into a winner, going 20-13 in two seasons.
