Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson is ahead of schedule in his recovery and eager to return to the game even stronger than before.
His desire to be the best shows. Now, Watson says he wants to eventually achieve more than what New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has done in his career.
“If Tom wins, it’s going to six, right? I want to be at seven,” Watson said, per Nick Shook of NFL.com. “Whatever it takes to be the best, the greatest, and not just for me, but for any athlete, especially quarterback … if you don’t want to chase Tom Brady and [be] above him, you’re selling yourself short. I always put my mentality with [being] the best, and Tom Brady is the best right now, so whatever I have to do to get to that level at age 40, that’s what I’m going to do.”
Indeed, what Brady has accomplished in the NFL at the age of 40 is nothing short of magnificent. And, it is awesome that Watson has set solid goals for himself.
He displayed tremendous talent on the field prior to tearing his ACL in November. Much of what Watson managed within the first half of the season was incredible. This would include his record-breaking 19 passing touchdowns accomplished by a rookie within his first seven games.
The sky is clearly the limit for this young and bright-minded 22-year-old quarterback. There is no reason right now to doubt anything Watson aims to accomplish as demonstrated by his open attitude.
