The Green Bay Packers’ general manager search didn’t last too long. Mere days after removing Ted Thompson from that role, the team has reportedly promoted Brian Gutekunst to GM.
Packers are hiring Brian Gutekunst as their GM, as @McClain_on_NFL said. A 5-year deal for Gutekunst.

Gutekunst was one of several in-house candidates to replace Thompson as GM. He was promoted to director of player personnel for the Packers back in March of 2016 and has spent nearly two decades in the team’s front office.
This comes after the 43-year-old Gutekunst interviewed for the Houston Texans’ vacant GM job.
Some had concluded that the Packers should have looked outside of the organization for a new general manager. After all, Gutekunst has spent the past 14 years working under Thompson in the front office.
In any event, he now takes over the personnel department for a squad that needs to improve its roster big time behind Aaron Rodgers if it hopes to contend in the NFC moving forward.
