It’s not a well kept secret that Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Jalen Ramsey loves to talk trash. As much as his elite performance on the field, this is a calling card for the second-year Pro Bowler.
Heading into the AFC Championship Game Sunday, Ramsey made a bold guarantee that his Jaguars wouldn’t only win the conference, but they’d hoist the Lombardi next month in Minnesota.
Initially, Patriots players decided to respond to Ramsey with praise (more on that here).
The same can’t be said for rookie defensive tackle Adam Butler, who shared his opinion on Ramsey’s guarantee.
“If you’re going to make a statement like that, you better be able to back it up,” Butler said, via ESPN. “It’s a bold statement to make. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure that out. But like I said, be humble or be humbled. That’s all I can really say about that.”
For his part, Ramsey has backed up this talk on the field in each of his first two NFL seasons. He was among the best cover corners in the league during the regular season, and has already picked off a pass in two playoff games this year.
Heavy home favorites against Jacksonville, the defending champion Patriots have always taken a business trip like approach to big games such as these. This doesn’t mean that Ramsey’s previous comments fell on deaf ears.
