Khalil Tate will be pleased to know that Ken Niumatalolo has decided to pull his name from the hat so to speak for the vacant head coaching position at Arizona. Instead, he’s re-committing to Navy, per ESPN’s Heather Dinich.
“After much prayer and pondering, it has become crystal clear the USNA is a special place with special people and I LOVE IT HERE!!! Plus I have unfinished business to finish, Niumatalolo wrote in a text message to Dinich.
Tate previously made it clear he was not interested in having Niumatalolo come to Arizona because he doesn’t see himself as a triple-option quarterback. Instead, Tate wants the university to promote defensive coordinator Marcel Yates as the next head coach to replace Rich Rodriguez.
It’s understandable that Tate doesn’t want to be pigeonholed in an offense that rarely passes the ball. However, the Wildcats could do a lot worse than hire a coach that has guided the Midshipment to 84 wins and 10 bowl berths in the past 11 seasons.
