There have been rumors linking Michigan head football coach Jim Harbaugh to a return to the NFL sidelines. Most notably, the vacant Indianapolis Colts’ head coaching job has been a topic of intrigue.
But Harbaugh put an end to these rumors following Michigan’s Outback Bowl loss to South Carolina on New Year’s Day.

With all the hubbub that surrounded Harbaugh’s return to Ann Arbor, his football teams have consistently disappointed in the coach’s three seasons with the Wolverines. By virtue of Monday’s loss, Michigan finishes the 2017 campaign with an 8-5 record without having defeated a single top-25 team. This comes on the heels of a 2016 season that saw Michigan finish with a 10-3 record after starting 9-0.
Despite this, Harbaugh continues to be a widely respected figure around the professional sports world. And in reality, four years has been his max at any college program or NFL franchise during his coaching career. That’s likely what led to these rumors in the first place.
