Certainly, NFL games feature plenty of fan ejections. But one fan who was ejected from Saturday’s Divisional Round showdown between the Atlanta Falcons and Philadelphia Eagles reacted in a quite unusual way.
“A Pennsylvania man was arrested for punching a police horse and its rider at Lincoln Financial Field over the weekend,” via Tom Schad, of USA Today. “Taylor Hendricks, a 22-year-old from Whitehall, Penn., was ejected from Saturday’s game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Atlanta Falcons because he was intoxicated and did not have a ticket, according to Philadelphia police. Following his ejection, police said, he approached a mounted officer and ‘began punching the horse in the face, neck and shoulder area.'”
Schad cited police spokesperson Tony Brown, who said that “The officer on the horse was then struck in the legs by the male (Hendricks). Another officer came over and grabbed the male, who was placed in custody.” Additionally, nobody, including the horse, was seriously hurt.
The chain of events here is really mind blowing.
First of all, plenty of fans drink too much at games. But it’s probably not a good idea to drink so much that you think this is a good idea. As a matter of fact, let’s call this a test. It’s hard to remember things when you’re in this state of mind but if you can, stop and ask yourself this after every drink. Do I think that punching a horse would be a good idea? If you have to pause, even for a second, then it’s time to stop drinking.
Secondly, if you’re going to attend a game, drunk or otherwise, it’s probably best to have a ticket.
Finally, don’t punch a horse — especially a police horse. It’s not going to end well. We can’t believe that needs to be written. But here we are.
On that note, we have to wonder if Mr. Hendricks is a distant relative of Mongo from “Blazing Saddles.”
