The Georgia Bulldogs and Alabama Crimson Tide are preparing to battle one another for the college football national championship title Monday. Ahead of that championship bout, the two schools met up on the hardcourt Saturday, where Georgia defeated Alabama 65-46.
According to history, this bodes well for the Dawgs. Per ESPN Stats & Info, this is the fourth time in the BCS/CFP era where the eventual football Championship Game participants played a basketball game prior to the football title game. In each of the three previous times this occurred, the winner of the basketball game also won the football title.
Now, obviously this doesn’t mean Georgia will beat Alabama Monday night in Atlanta. History was made to be broken, after all.
That said, this scribe is picking Georgia to win, regardless. The Bulldogs are clicking at the right time and have outstanding playmakers on both sides of the ball. In particular, I expect Jake Fromm to outplay Jalen Hurts. Additionally, Georgia’s dual-headed monster at running back — Sony Michel and Nick Chubb — is more explosive than Alabama’s running game, too.
Monday cannot come soon enough.
