Blake Bortles “led” his Jacksonville Jaguars to a playoff victory over the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. He did so in a way that reminded us of some of the better mobile quarterbacks in college football history, gaining a career-high 88 yards on 10 attempts in a 10-3 win over Buffalo.
Following the game, Bortles was asked about his stance on Central Florida and their win in the Peach Bowl. No matter how short the answer was, Bortles didn’t mince words.
Bortles is asked about #UCF winning the Peach Bowl and he cuts off the question: “National Champs.”

This falls in line with what we’re hearing from the Central Florida football program after it finished the season as the only undefeated FBS team.
A lot has been made about the Knights being held out of the CFP this season, especially after Scott Frost led them to an undefeated regular season. Once Central Florida took care of Auburn in the Peach Bowl, the debate about whether this team was the real national champs raged.
Bortles played for Central Florida from 2011-13, leading the team to a 12-1 record and a win over Baylor in the Fiesta Bowl in his final season.
In any event, we’re not surprised Bortles went to bat for his former program. He’ll now take his talents to Pittsburgh to take on the Steelers in the AFC Divisional Playoffs next weekend.
As for Central Florida, they’ll watch Georgia and Alabama take on one another in the national title Monday night.
