WATCH: Diamondbacks prospect pays off parents’ house

Pavin Smith received a $5 million signing bonus after the Arizona Diamondbacks took him in the first round of the 2017 draft, and he recently put some of the money to wonderful use.

The first baseman shared a video of his parents reading a Christmas letter in which they found out Smith paid off their mortgage.

“Because of all the sacrifices you made to get me where I am, I want our family home to be yours,” the letter said.

What a terrific thing to do, and we appreciate the emotional moment being shared. Many kids dream of being able to something like this for the people who raised them.

Smith, who Baseball America calls the No. 3 prospect in the Arizona organization, was able to make that wish a reality.
