Some explosive news broke around the NFL Friday evening with reports that the Carolina Panthers were investigating owner and founder Jerry Richardson for alleged workplace misconduct (more on that here).
It’s a report the Panthers themselves confirmed by releasing a statement indicating that they were indeed investigating Richardson.
According to CBS Sports NFL insider Jason La Canfora, that’s no longer the case. With other owners around the league upset about the Panthers overseeing the investigation, the NFL itself has reportedly taken over.

It remains to be seen exactly how this will impact the investigation. The Panthers’ press release on Friday noted that the law firm Quinn Emanuel Urquhart and Sullivan, LLP was brought in to undertake the investigation with minority owner Erskine Bowles overseeing it.
We’ll have more information on this latest development as it breaks.
