In today’s college football climate, it’s rare that a head coach really suffers much when he gets fired. Just ask former Arkansas head honcho Bret Bielema.
According to ESPN’s Mark Schlabach, Bielema negotiated with Arkansas to take home $11.8 million in a buyout settlement. This is significantly more than the $5.8 million that had previously been reported he’d receive if he were fired as the head coach of Arkansas’ football program. It’s less, however, than the $15.4 million he had left on his contract.
Bielema was informed he was no longer to be the program’s head coach as he walked off the field after the team’s final game of the season against Missouri.
The program went 1-7 in the SEC this year, and the only conferencde team Arkansas beat this year was Ole Miss. In five years at Arkansas, Bielema went 29-33, including a 2-1 record in bowl games.
